Home Security is Never Something to Overlook
In your efforts to make your home safer, here are three keys to hone in on:
- Use commonsense – One of the best things you can do for more home security is use some commonsense. Without it, you could be setting yourself up for trouble. For example, do you keep all your doors and windows locked at the appropriate times? Not doing this can invite trouble into the home. You also want to be sure that the doors and windows you have are in good shape. Not only do you want them to look good and be easy to operate, they should provide security too. If thinking of any changes to your home, opting for bifold doors would be a good move. Such doors not only look good and are easy to open and close, they can provide you with an extra layer of security. Should you be thinking of doing any home renovations, keep such options in mind.
- Don’t advertise you are away – If you travel for pleasure or business trips, your home can be empty. That is for periods of time unless others live there with you. That said be smart when on the road for one reason or another. You do not want to tip off potential intruders to the fact you are gone for a notable amount of time. This means making sure the outside of your home is kept up while you’re away. So, be sure any grass and bushes are properly trimmed. If away in the winter and there is snow, have someone shovel it for you. You also need to be sure any mail, newspapers and such are collected on a regular basis while you are gone. Be smart and do not give people with bad intentions related to your home a leg up.
- Be smart when on social media – Finally, it is imperative to be smart when using any social media sites when away. For example, you go on a trip and decide to post on Facebook, Instagram or other such sites you’re gone. Doing this can alert potential intruders. That is your home may be empty at the moment if no one else is there. Before you know it, someone could strike while you are on the trip. What you come home to can be quite upsetting. Wait until you return from the getaway to post comments and photos from your time gone.
